Western Region
Main Line, Buffalo to Chicago
Elkhart, Indiana
Elkhart is located along the ex-NYC Buffalo-Chicago main line and was the home of Robert R. Young Yard, a major classifcation point. This yard (now simply called Elkhart Yard) remains a busy place today for Norfolk Southern. PC's Elkhart Branch from Jackson, Michigan, also joined the main line here.

Streator, Illinois
At the Route 23 crossing in Streator, U33B 2922 and GP40 3142 bring a 69 car steel train through town. The train is
on the ex-NYC Kankakee Branch, which ran between South Bend, Indiana, and Zearing, Illinois. While the line was
marketed as the "Kankakee Belt" route to connect with western railroads and avoid the congestion of the Chicago area,
most of the traffic on this line went to and from the J&L Steel plant at Hennepin, Illinois.
