Rail Diesel Cars
Penn Central rostered a number of Budd Rail Diesel Cars, or RDCs. Both New York Central
and New Haven operated RDCs, and they continued their service into the Penn Central era.
PC subsidiary Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines also operated RDCs, but their RDCs remained
lettered for PRSL and stayed on PRSL trackage in southern New Jersey.
PC RDC 56 lays over between runs at Brewster, NY, on July 9, 1969. Its NYC heritage can be easily
seen from the faded lettering above the windows.

Penn Central also operated the former New Haven "Roger Williams" Budd cars with the diesel faces. Here is car 28, seen at
Wellesley Hills, MA, in May 1974, after being relettered for Amtrak.
