Even THAT article hardly sounds like "self destruction." Kinks will be found
in any merger in history. The shippers sound willing to give them the time to
get it ironed out.
Business is booming and moving smoothly on the Boston Line. (Albany division,
east) On Wednesday night, sadly, teenaged trespassers, scurrying under a
standing cut of cars at Readville, were tragically surprised when that cut -
CSX train B731 (Conrail WARE2) began to move east into yard #2, slightly
injuring 2 boys who were between the cars and killing a third who tried to
pass under it. The grusome discovery was made by the conductor and a trainee
who were walking the train, to the head end, for inspection, prior to heading
west for Framingham, MA. The boy killed, had his head and an arm severed. The
other arm still held the 12 pack of beer he was apparently going to consume
on the tracks. This is the first fatality for Conrail at Readville in years.
But the first for CSX in 2 weeks. I got a call from the engineer (a friend)
who reported that the conductor a young, "church going - non swearing" guy.
Still couldn't come to work 3 days later. Ed
