Too proud to admit it.  :^)

My understanding of the feelings at the time is that the NYC and PRR
brought Penn Central upon themselves. New Haven was ordered into the mess
under duress.

While the fans at that time weren't pleased, a case could be made that some
within the ex-PRR and ex-NYC ranks were optimistic about the new company.
Nobody was happy that the New Haven went away. Fans or employees.
