Pardon my ignorance,
but why are these units referred to as "Chicken Wire?"

I'm guessing a repair to a nose or something must have been done with
fiberglass over a chicken wire frame.  Clarification please?

Are photos available?

It does bring to mind a photo I took in the early 80's of a C&O coal hopper
that had rusted away to the point that straw was jammed into the holes to
keep the coal from running out.  (The car was in service on the B&O main
line at Shenandoah Jct. WV.
