Hello Penn Central Fans,
I'm looking for the two items listed below. If any of you has either of
the items that you would either trade/sell, or know where I can locate such items, please let me know.
Thanks, Chuck
Author: United States. Congress. House. Committee on Banking and Currency.
Title: The Penn Central failure and the role of financial institutions;
staff report, 91st Congress, second session.
Published: Washington, U.S. Govt. Print. Off., 1970
Part I. Effects of Penn Central's diversification program on the
railroad's cash position.
This item is relatively common in libraries. If you want to own a hardcopy, it may be difficult. I know there is a copy in the Wright Patman Papers (he was the Banking Committee Chairman) at the Lyndon Johnson Library at the University of Texas. However, if you don't live near there, I would suggest going to a university library or a public library that is a depository for government documents and see if they may have it in hard i.e. paper copy. There is a computer database in most university libraries' government documents section that allows searches of government publications for the call number. I believe the database is divided into two segments 1776-1970 and 1971 to present. If the library does not have a hard copy, they may have it on microfilm (with the same call number) which is very inexpensive to duplicate. Failing this, most library's would be happy to obtain it through interlibrary loan. Failing that, I would be happy to photocopy my copy which is the marked up version from Wright Patman's office. I have found it is consistent with the final version although Patman's sometimes incendiary changes are interesting to read.
SECOND ITEM
Author: Penn Central Transportation Company.
Title: Reorganization court proceedings : the Penn Central
Transportation Company, debtor : in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania,
Hon. John P. Fullam, D.J.
Published: Washington, D.C. : CRR Pub. Co., <[1985] c1981-
Subjects: Penn Central Transportation Company -- Trials, litigation,
etc.
Railroad law -- United States.
Corporate reorganizations -- United States.
Other authors: District Court (Pennsylvania : Eastern District)

This one is going to be more difficult to get because there was only a limited printing. Although it may be available on interlibrary loan, I have not been able to obtain it because most libraries consider it a reference book making it unavailable for loan. It is also quite expensive. I was offered a set for $1700. The copy I used was owned by a law firm. The Reorganization Court Reporter set is 20 volumes in length but only contains a selection of the most important documents. If you live near Philadelphia, the National Archives and Records Administration Philadelphia Branch has ALL the numbered documents from the Penn Central court proceedings donated by the law firm that handled the Penn Central case. If you can find the 20 volume set, the last two volumes are an index that would make searching for a particular document easy. All the documents are indexed even though only a selection are printing in the Reorganization Court Proceedings. I only copied selected documents from these volumes but would be happy to send you a particular document if I have it. The Pennsylvania State Archives at Harrisburg may also have a copy, but I am not sure. Also, if you live near a law library, they might be able to obtain selected volumes through interlibrary loan. I am sorry I can't help you any more for this one.
Hope this helps
