Re: PC: Re: Hopper reporting marks

Penn Central resurrected the Toledo and Ohio Central (TOC) - a line the NYC
acquired in either 1910 or 1914 and which the NYC fully absorbed in 1952. The
T&OC basically disappeared in the 1936/7 renumbering of the NYC System. The
TOC was used as a tax dodge by the PC, with better results than the CN had.

The Official Railway Equipment Register of 1/79 has: Box, Stl. 149000-149149
50'4"(il) 55 tons 80 cars
The Official Railway Equipment Register of 1/79 has: Box, Stl. 149150-149199
50'4" 55 tons 29 cars (2" shorter outside)
The Official Railway Equipment Register of 1/79 has: Box, Stl., X50a
149631-149665 50'6" 55 tons 12 cars
The Official Railway Equipment Register of 1/79 has: Box, Stl.161000-161199
50'7" 55 tons 117 cars

The Official Railway Equipment Register of 4/84 has: XM Stl. Boxcar
149056-161157

According to Central Headlight , vol. XXVI, no. 2, 161129 was ex-NYC 205305

There were also some hoppers sub-lettered for TOC. The Official Railway
Equipment Register 1/73, note 43 says Cars in series 828000 to 831999 are or
will be marked with Reporting Marks "TOC". These were 35'2"(ol) 65 tons, and
consisted of 284 cars in the 1/79 registry.

This is getting a little long-winded. There is more information on my web
site at http://www.members.kconline.com/plank/tocrostc.htm. This is under
construction - criticisms, comments, and especially information are welcome.
The Toledo & Ohio Home Page is at

Hope this is of some use.
