It seems to me that a lot of the New York Central freight cars, especially
boxcars and gondolas kept their green paint scheme, but got the Penn Central
lettering and stenciling. The railroad never completed repainting all the
freight cars of the two major components NYC and PRR, there may still be
hoppers stencilled PRR in Conrail Work train service. These are painted
yellow. I hope this sheds some light on this.
