My guess is that these cars were part of an interroad pool of boxcars
dedicated to the exclusive service of the customer to whom they were assigned
for loading. Each of the larger shippers had his own pool of cars from which
to draw for his shipping needs, regardless of what he was loading and the type
of car he selected for the load. Would that make sense to anyone? I think it
does.
