The Erie Lackawanna Railroad had the same problems as Penn Central did when
that railroad's two components merged to form the Erie Lackawanna. These
problems were much the same as the Penn Central Red and Green feuding. The
Erie Lackawanna was one railroad in name until mid 1961 when it became one in
operation. Penn Central continued to function much like two railroads in
operation and one in name for some time too. That was another factor that
helped sink Penn Central. Taking in the New Haven may well have been the last
straw.
