If the controls are set up to run short hood forward, that is the way the
locomotive must be run if it is to be operated at maximum track speed
applicable to the train it is hauling. Otherwise, 30mph may be tops, depending
on what the regional employee timetable calls for. If you have any, you might
want to consult one and/or the Rules for Conducting Transportation. Usually
the special instructions in the timetable are specific on this.
