RE: PC: Review: Penn Central in Color (in KC)



I found this information online from the HLCX roster:
 
3817: ex-NS 5362/CR 8227

That said, I am not sure it was an ex-Helm Leasing unit now.  I think the ex-CR 8227 was a late model full GP38-2, which I believe was acquired after the demise of PC... but I may be wrong.  May have to check out my CR book when I get home...

  I wish I knew the original PC number, then I may be able to find out.  It is a straight GP-38 (not a dash-2, although I am sure the internal components have been upgraded to dash-2 standards a long time ago), likely from the second or third order placed by PC.  I think someone needs to get a close look at the builders plate.  It does look like it may have been an old Helm Leasing unit (HLCX)...

  Could  these have been early GP38's that Conrail traded in or maybe the lease expired and they were returned??
