I use just about anything. I have scratchbuilt models, kitbashed models,
used RTR models, and modified RTR models.....however all required work before
running on my railroad.
For instance a RTR Kadee car....arguably one of the best out there but the
trucks need to be painted, a clear coat appropriate to the age of the car
needs to be applied, and then of course weathering.
Now since this is a Penn Central page what RTR kits are out there that are
appropriate for the Penn Central? Hmmmmm. The Walthers N12 caboose
(but needs some finishing), the Walthers 86' long boxcars, and
what else? Atlas cylindrical hoppers, PS2 covered hoppers,
Athearn PS2 covered hopper, Most of the rest are not done too
well (such as the Bowser H43s).
Almost the entire PC boxcar fleet needs to use kits such as Branchline or RYM or need kitbashed (such as X43, X44, X45, X46, X51, X55, X56) to get a convincing fleet. Since my goal is to model a convincing fleet most of my freight car
fleet (especially the NYC, PRR, and PC cars) are made from kits and most
I painted. What other options for a PC fleet
is there?
