I'd never heard of the "C" as being red except on the baseball caps that
everyone has always acknowledged as being wrong. and should have had the
"C" in orange.
 Does anyone have color samples that could be compared to determine
which is the closer match?  The New Haven used several different shades
of orange and red-orange over the years.  I doubt that they would have
used leftover NH or PRR paint just for these few units: likely cheaper
to buy it from their regular supplier.
