Re: PC: Metro North FL-9s Being Cut Up



Has any other class of locomotives ever served for so long in whichever
the they were built for as the FL-9s have?  
 The New Haven people will tell you that longevity doesn't mean that
they were good and most all agree that they were a poor substitute for
the electrics they replaced.  Thing is, they did their jobs well enough
that no one even started looking for a replacement until they were about
fourty years old, unlike the SDP-40Fs, which disappeared real quick.  As
passenger traffic continued to decline, the FL-9s could be sent to work
anywhere on the system but the electrics could only go to Schaivone, the
scrapper.
