Re: PC: Penn Central X79 cars

These cars were built by Thrall during May and June 1973. It's a good bet
that the lease to PC was a ten year type lease. This would mean that the
cars would have reverted back to Kellog's around June 1983. That would
make the 10-83 ORER the first issue that would list them with Kellog's KELX
reprting marks. Older ORER issues used to list an effective date for the
issue of about two months before the cover date...example: July 19__ issue
effective May 1, 19__. I doubt the 7-83 ORER would have listed these cars
under KELX.

Kellog's KELX is not listed in the 1981 ORERs. KELX does appear in my 04-82
edition with a series of 100 60' box cars other than the ones in question.
The 281XXX series appears in the 10-83 issue. I do not have the 07-82,
10-82, 01-83, 04-83 or 07-83 issues, but between April 1982 and October
1983, the cars went off lease to CR (formerly PC) and went to Kellog, for
whose service the cars had been leased by PC/CR in the first place (as I
understood their service). I would also remind everyone that some roads
were
slow to report roster changeds to the ORER folks, but perhaps we can rely
on
this one since the KELX reporting mark was established and entered the year
immediately preceding, in 1982....and CR's records HAVE to have been better
than PC's.
