Division Superintendent, Ernie Cross, Had the shop forces paint up a special
bay window Caboose in a special safety scheme for his new Albany Division.
This buggy spent a lot of time at Readville, having been awarded to the crew
of engineer, Robert "Red" O'Brien, and conductors Joe Poli and Gerry
Dunleavy. The caboose was white with a large Conrail lantern on the flanks
and labeled "Keep the safety light butning" and on the roof sills on one end
asking..."is this the end?" and the other end answering..."No, the
beginning". It was awarded to the above crew for incident-free operation,
several times. The train symbol was WNRE1. Later the N was changed to WARE1
for "Albany Division"
