EL's William White also screwed up the the EL discouraging
commuters as much as possible using old worn out DLW MU's, Boonton and Stillwell
coach'es while all other NY area commuter lines had modern air conditioned
equipment since the 50's. He also tried to put more freight on DLW side
than Erie side who had a NH/PC Connection at Campbell Hall, NY via Maybrook and
New England points that the DLW lacked. End result resulted in 100% abandonment
of the DLW Main Line between Port Morris, NJ and Slateford, PA that like
Poughkeepsie Bridge, will never be revived and see service again. PC and EL
managment was simply typical corporate greed. It's too late to correct the
damage now.

The New Haven was THE masterpiece of railroading
wish lists. Their flawless mainlines were groomed daily by armies of
laborers. Their passenger trains, their top priority, were second to none.
Their equipment, the newest, the best, was lovingly maintained in the MOST
number of terminals. Their schedules were militaristically maintained
without excuses. Their bosses were among the toughest, their paint schemes
unique. They defaulted three times from 1900 'til their demise in 1969.
Yet, the New Haven was NOT the reason for the decline of the Penn Central,
but rather, yet another excuse that the "Red team" of Philadelphia
exploited in what was one of the most criminal enterprises that America
has ever known...The biggest Corporate failure in American history..."The
Wreck of the Penn Central" Thank Mr. Saunders and Mr. Bevan. But, You know
what? Out of it came a more healthy attitude toward railroad management.
