I believe the red stripes were a practice of the New York Central. If you check
Morning Sun's NYC Color Equipment Guide book, there are some photos in the back
by either Emery Gulash or Bill Hermann that show some NYC wreck cranes in action
wearing the red stripes. I will check for sure when I get home tonight, but I'm
pretty certain that the NYC did that. I can't remember offhand how the PRR
painted their cranes, but I'll check my PRR color equipment guide book too.
