If I were purchasing a TVM loco, I would definitely go with the built-up model.
The kits are only for the very-very-advanced modeler that has a lot of patience.
Remember, spin-casting in flexible molds does not have the same repeatability
as die-casting. Let someone else do the fiddling, even if it costs $40 extra.
The owner (and assembler) of TVM is very skilled at putting these things
together.

W/ typical price between the kits and the "ready for paint" models being
$40, this might be the way to go depending how you value your time and/or
you are limited in skills.
