PC: Despatch Shops

When did the Despatch Shops close in E. Rochester?  Did Conrail close them?

I lived in Rochester from 1981-1983 while at college and once went over there 
looking for their remains.  I can't remember if they were around though at 
that time.  

I am now planning a move back to Rochester, and was over in E. Rochester a 
few times.  Are the buildings along Commercial Ave near the tracks the old 
shops?  I know there are some stores in them now.

As a follow up,  did anyone ever publish any books about the shops?
