This is an old post that will address your question from my archives of the
PC list.
Hope this helps, I do not remember who sent it in. Note it was a short
period of PC's short life that this was done.

The reason (I think)was to make the red team feel more accepted.
The red P was only applied to rolling stock from May 13th, 1968 to
June 21st, 1968. All white lettering was applied after June 21st. The
following locomotives had the red P:
