Speaking of cars in uses for which they were not originally intentioned:

Just off I-69 south of Ft. Wayne, IN I remeber there is/was an old flat car 
(Pennsy I think, maybe not) that was being used as a bridge over a ditch 
between two fields on a farm for farm equipment.

Somewhere I have a slide of an gondola still in service on the rails, but 
more weeds growing in it than the old rail ties and other junk it was being 
used to carry.
