Could these cars have been reaching the end of their lawful interchange
lifespan? I remember reading someplace that 40 years was the age limit for
frieght cars, they could no longer be interchanged in revenue service after
that point. I've forgotten if it was an ICC rule or who's though, so I
don't know if it still applies to the railroads or not.
