It would have been nice if Conrail had been left alone, but things with this
transaction are too far along to turn back now, unless something turns up to
throw a monkey wrench into the plans of NS and CSX. Haulage and other
agreements with Conrail for market access would have been a much cheaper way
for these two railroads to gain access to the  New York and other eastern
markets. The Delaware and Hudson Railway looks like that railroad is going to
get screwed in the process and I am sure the same holds true of certain of the
other connecting railroads that exchange traffic with Conrail now.
