The three E7s were used by NJDOT until about 1979-1980 when they, together
with former Erie Lackawanna E8 No.4014 (825) were retired about that time.
After that time, the NJDOT, then NJ Transit closed out the E8 era using units
from Southern, Penn Central, and Illinois Central, all randomly numbered in
the 4200-4300 block. After the E7s had run many millions of miles,  it can
safely be said that the owners of these locomotives sure got their money's
worth out of these and the E8 units. What more can be said about such a
durable diesel.
