PC: Trains in UPPER New York State

Along Route 28 in the Adirondack region of NY State on the leg that runs
south from Racquette Lake heading for Lake George is an apparently
abandonded stretch of railroad that paralells both Route 28 and the
headwaters of the Hudson River.
I stopped near a road crossing and there were large white signs
that read WARNING - Working Railroad....blah blah blah NL Chemicals/NL.
Now it was obvious that this stretch of trackage had NOT been used in some
time as there were 5 to 6' trees growing up in the guage of the track.
The signs did not appear to be that old and were the Black letter on white
background reflective type.
Anyone have any info as to what the history of this road is????
Thanks in advance
