I would like to model early Amtrak operations by using two P2K E8As
painted in the PC 4252-4266 series that operated out of South Station in
Boston. Would it be possible to use the Walthers Phase 1 coach and
food service cars, or would it be "more accurate" to use IHC/Rivarossi
type cars? I would be modelling up to the late summer 1976.
Unfortunately I don't can't answer the coach question because I have
had little experience with either manufacturer. I do however have a
comment on the locomotives. Within the PC 4252-4266 series only the
4252 went to Amtrak (#278). 4254, 4256, 4261-4266 (and 4268) went to
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority 12/02/76. Although they
may have pulled Amtrak trains I do not believe this was a regular
assignment.
AMTK 496 was formerly AMTK 288, PC 4280, PRR 4280, PRR 5710A.
I am almost positive I saw a photo of it with the cab cut off on the scrap
track at New Haven, CT in the early eighties.
