PC: RE: HO PC/AMT Modelling Question -Reply

Five E-units were converted to HEP, they were numbers 495-499. This was so they could work with amfleet and rebuilt CNW bi-levels. Dont know what there numbers were before painted in Amtrak colors. Hope that helps.

Ed,

This seems to be a steam heat vs. head end power question.
If someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'll get a better answer this
weekend, but I would guess that if Amfleet cars were used, a
power car would be required. I don't know how many, if any,
E8's were converted to head end power by Amtrak for use in
the east.

I would like to model early Amtrak operations by using two P2K E8As
painted
in the PC 4252-4266 series that operated out of South Station in Boston.
Would it be possible to use the Walthers Phase 1 coach and food service
cars, or would it be "more accurate" to use IHC/Rivarossi type cars? I
would be modelling up to the late summer 1976.
