I recently e-mailed the Executive Director of the National New York Central
Railroad Museum (in Elkhart, Indiana), about their museum possibly acquiring
and preserving the (ex-NYC originally) ex-Penn Central MU car #1077 that we
are all writing about. I explained how it is the last one left of that series
and how it needs to be preserved soon unless it will be scrapped. This
happens to be VERY important as many of us know!
How many people out there are interested in seeing this car get preserved? If
all of us that are interested in seeing the National New York Central Railroad
Museum preserve this car we can all e-mail them and show the Museum that there
is a large number of railfans out there that would like to see the car
preserved. All PC fans remember, this car also did belong to the Penn
Central, so if we can all show the National NYC RR Museum that it is important
that they preserve this car, they just may do so after all, if they see how we
all know that there is such historical value to this MU car. This is one of
the best ways that we can all get together to show the National NYC RR Museum
that there is a railfan public out there who wants to see this car preserved!
Anyone out there interested in helping be lead the effort to get the National
New York Central RR Museum to preserve this car, please e-mail David M. Bird,
the Executive Director of the National NYC RR Museum at:
artscul -AT- elkhartindiana.org
and explain to him that there are a number of railfans out there interested in
seeing this car preserved. Josh Weis had told me that he had heard the
Danbury (Connecticut) Railway Museum said they weren't interested in this car.
Well, it's their loss and will hopefully be the National NYC RR Museum's gain,
otherwise it'll be the scrap dealers gain. There is a chance here that we can
all get this car to be preserved simply by showing that there are people
interested in seeing it preserved. All that are interested PLEASE show
support by e-mailing David M. Bird about this old New York Central and later
Penn Central MU car being preserved.
Thanks!
John Weyhausen
BTW, here's the National New York Central RR Museum's web site address for
those who don't have it or lost it:
