This discussion of preserved electrics got me thinking.....with all the
preserved GG-1's around (how many are there, 20-odd?)--not one has
been restored in shiny PC black! :(
We need to form a little PC lobbying group to protect our interests!
When I interned at the B&O Museum in Baltimore 1992-1995 (I still
have contacts there) we had TWO GG1's which caused the collection
manager (and me) a lot of grief. We finally unloaded one to the railroad
museum in Green Bay, WI in exchange for a FM unit. The other, 4876
came in Penn Central black with major rust. As you can imagine
restoring the locomotive is a low priority for the B&O as the PRR was the
arch enemy. I suggested we at least paint the loco in PC black and, quite
frankly, the collection manager did not give a damn. If I was in Baltimore
now it would be no sweat. Texas is far from Baltimore however.
