The E-33's had DYNAMIC BRAKES. Unlike many electric locomotives, which were
utilized with regenerative braking. The E33 locos were equipped with
ignitron-rectifier tubes, which converted the AC power carried through the
overhead wires to DC. A transformer dropped the 11,000 volt transmission
voltage for the diesel-electric style traction motors to use. many electric
locomotives used regenerative braking. This is what separated the E33,
electronically from it's sister the E-44. E St.G
