7270-7298, 7530-7559, the ex NH GP-9s?"
NH GP9's 1200-1229 were renumbered PC 7530-7559. The following
ex-NH GP9's were renumbered from the 7530-7559 series to the
7270-7298 series by Penn Central.
NH 1201 (ex-PC 7531) to PC 7271, CR 7271
NH 1202 (ex-PC 7532) to PC 7272, CR 7272
NH 1208 (ex-PC 7538) to PC 7278, CR 7278
NH 1210 (ex-PC 7540) to PC 7280, CR 7280
NH 1211 (ex-PC 7541) to PC 7281, CR 7281
NH 1214 (ex-PC 7544) to PC 7284, CR 7284
NH 1216 (renumbered directly to PC 7286), CR 7286
NH 1220 (ex-PC 7550) to PC 7290, CR 7290
NH 1221 (ex-PC 7551) to PC 7291, CR 7291
NH 1222 (ex-PC 7552) to PC 7292, CR 7292
NH 1223 (ex-PC 7553) to PC 7293, CR 7293
NH 1228 (ex-PC 7558) to PC 7298, CR 7298
I know the disposition of the following units:
PC 7271 (NH 1201) - Retired by CR 1/7/86, to Cape Cod & Hyannis
Railroad, Renumbered CC&H 1201 "Falmouth," Renumbered CC&H 21, To
Georgia and Alabama Railroad, Renumbered G&A 21, To WATCO/WATX
m/94, Renumbered WATX 21.
PC 7280 (NH 1210) - Retired by CR, to Cape Cod & Hyannis,
Renumbered CC&H 1210 "Spirit of Massachusetts."
PC 7290 (NH 1220) - Retired by CR 09/25/90, disposition unknown
PC 7292 (NH 1222) - Retired by CR 09/25/90, to Peliet Bros. n/94,
scrapped.
PC 7559 (NH 1229) - To MBTA 1977, Sold to Illinois Central Gulf,
Rebuilt by ICG for South East Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA),
Renumbered SEMTA 905, To MBTA when SEMTA ceased operations
2/87, Renumbered MBTA 905.
NH retired 1207 prior to inclusion in PC.
Penn Central 7530, 7533, 7534, 7535, 7536, 7539, 7542, 7543, 7545,
7547, 7548, 7549, 7454, 7455, 7456, 7457, 7459 were not renumbered
into the 7270-7298 numbering series by the end of the Penn Central and
went to Conrail under the same numbers numbers.
Conrail retired all the GP9's that survived the Penn Central. No ex-NH
GP9's were selected for rebuilt into GP10's by CR. I presume all the units
I do not have dispositions for are scrapped, but I can't confirm this.
