PC: Modeling PC - Roundup (long)

Thanks to all who offered information on PC modeling article. Jerry
offered to assemble all the reponses, but I'm sure he's got plenty to do.
I've only included postings which referred to PC related article, not the
"Why Model PC?" debate that ensued. Please add to this subject if you come
across more PC features or published PC photos, or can confirm or deny any
of the contents. If there are no more reponses, I'll reformat the posting
into a list so it can be placed on the PC Home Page.

Bob Holzweiss, your response came through as an attachment. I'm not sure I
 got it all.

Thanks,
Eben

Does anyone know of any article in MR, RMC, etc. dealing with modeling PC
and/or it's equipment? I have the last two years of MR and various back
issues dating to 1989 and not seen a single thing on PC. I know there are
as many anti-PC fans as there are PC fans (perhaps more), but there must be
some articles dating back to the '70s?

BTW, I just noticed the only PC diesel models in any of the mags I have.
Page 77 of the August '90 MR has a shot of the HO scale Pasadena Model
Railroad Club roundhouse with 4 PC units on one of the shop tracks. Looks
like they are all stock production models, a F9 with red P (?), U-Bout
(Athearn U28C?), a GP38 or GP40 (Atlas), and another unidentifiable hood
unit.

I believe that MR ran an article on detailing Atlas' RS-11 to better match
New Haven (and PC) locomotives. RMC ran an article in June 1974 on
PC transfer cabooses and how to construct one using an Athearn grain
loading box car. Also, MR or RMC ran an article on '50 PC/CR boxcars in
'95 or '96.

i replied by looking up some of Mark's issues that are at my place....

Jan 93 "Modelling the N5C Cabin Car", pg.56, J. Six
May 93 "PRR Open Steel Hoppers, H21 and Subclasses", pg. 30, J.
Teichmoeller(He also covers the H25 and H22 classes in the Sep. and Aug.
issues)
May 97 E7 PRR and PC G. Melvin

During the late 80's and into the 90's, Model Railroading ran some
diesel detail projects by Jim Six. Most of these articles were on
Conrail loco's, but some were done on PC, READING, and the EL. If I
can find the issues I'll reply with the dates and the title of the
article.

OK, here is a list of articles that i could find, I thought there was more
but I couldn't find them.

All articles are in Model Railroading.

April and May 92 Cresson Helper pool(article about CR but with
                                            some PC stuff included)

July 93 Penn Central F-7's

later issue(not sure of date) PRR SD-40's with some PC stuff
                                    included.

I hope this will further your determination on modeling the mighty PC.
It must be a red team green team thing that nobody wants to admit that
the PC ever existed. It was a great rr that should be paid more
attention to, besides it was the main rr for CR.

Model Railroader has compiled several of their best diesel detailing
projects into two informative softcover books. The articles provide all
the necessary info. to kitbash and superdetail locomotives with very
helpful illustrations of the finished product.
     Diesel Detailing Projects Vol. 1
            Conrail B23-7
Modeling and Detailing Diesels Vol. 2
An article on the Cresson (Horseshoe Curve) helper pool by Jim
          Six.
             PC/CR SD40
             PC/CR SD45
             PC/CR GP40 / GP40-2
             CR GP15-1

Volume Two is certainly worth the $16.95. The coverage of the
Cresson helper pool and how to model it (by Jim Six) spans 36 pages.
For information on how to obtain a copy go to the MR web site.

The Sept 96 issue of RMC has info about modeling the X-72 and, X-72a 50'
boxcars. This easy one or two evening project could be done by anyone
advanced to the beginer. Check it out!
