  Interesting this question should come up tonight.  This weekend, I
put up a picture of the Curve on my web site, and another of the
N5C caboose that sits above the Gallitzen tunnels.  Also put up a bit
of historical information that I got from a book purchased at the
gift shop below the Curve.  Unfortunately, I can't speak directly to
the question posed here, as The book didn't address it and I never
noticed the difference in color.  Looking forward to further postings,
though.

  BTW, I have also added a long (2.7mb) .wav file of an Illinois Central
2-8-2 steam locomotive.  It takes a long time (20 min on a 28.8 connection)
to load, but it is a neat clip, off a CD.  Lots of heavy pulling sound,
and some great "steamboat" whistle portions.  Let me know if you like it.
