PC: N6a and N9 questions

Can any one tell me the difference between the late NYC N6a and the N9
class of transfer caboose.

I have always assumed the N9 was built by PC and Not NYC but I have
found some Late NYC builders photos of an N6a with no roofwalks and a
propane installation like the N9.

Is the only difference who built them????????
